Iran defeated Russia 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-181) on Thursday and earned the top spot in Pool F of the FIVB Boys' Youth World Championship underway in Italy.

Iran had defeated Tunisia and booked a birth in the semi-final round on Wednesday. Iran beat the African champion 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 25-18, 25-13) in Pool F. The defending champion had already defeated Spain 3-1 in this stage.

"I would like to express my congratulations to my team who were able to qualify for the important semi-final match. It was a difficult match, especially in regards to maintaining concentration," Iran head coach said.

"I also want to congratulate the Tunisian head coach who has a very high-quality team," Jovika Cvetkovic added.

The 2009 FIVB Boys Youth Volleyball World Championship is underway in the two Italian cities of Jesolo and Bassano del Grappa from August 28 to September 6.
