Tehran's Sangelaj to entertain theatergoers with "Hamlet with Season Salad"

TEHRAN, Sept. 11 (Mehr News Agency) -- Veteran stage director Hadi Marzban will stage Akbar Radi's "Hamlet with Season Salad" in mid October at the Sangelaj Theater Hall.

"I staged the play in 1990 but the performances were limited so that I promised to restage the work. Of course it will be different from previous performances," Hadi Marzban told IRNA.

Veteran artists Behruz Baqaii, Reza Fayyazi, Farzaneh Kaboli, Bahareh Rahnama, Rasul Najafian, Ferdows Kaviani, Amir Dejakam and Ayyub Aqakhani will star in the play.

"He has dedicated 'Hamlet with Season Salad' to me and Farzaneh Kaboli in the last edition of the book," he added.

He called Radi as a knowledgeable playwright who knows his characters and chooses them from Iranian societies and accurately depicts them in his works.

"Injustice and poverty were always Radi's concerns in his work as well as mine," he added.

His plays the "Glorious Smile of Mr. Gil" and "Beneath the Passage of Saqqakhaneh" were recently staged by Marzban.

Born in 1939 in Rasht, Gilan Province, Radi attracted the attention of the giants of Iranian theater with his skill in playwriting and the power of his words from the beginning of his career in the field. His works were compared with the plays of Anton Chekhov and Henrik Ibsen.

The 68-year-old playwright died of cancer at Tehran's Pars Hospital on December 26, 2007.

"Melody of a Rainy City", "The Descent", "The Fishermen", "Death in Autumn", "The Glorious Smile of Mr. Gil" and "Beneath the Saqqakhaneh Passage" are among his best known works.
