The Iranian police seized over 557 tons of illicit drugs over the course of the last Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2010.

Most of the drug confiscated in Iran originates from Afghanistan
"The anti-drug police succeeded in confiscating 557 tons and 622 kilos of various kinds of illicit drugs in the country last year," National Drug Control Headquarters Director Brigadier General Hamidreza Hosseinabadi told the Mehr News Agency in Tehran on Friday.
Of this amount, 461.396 tons of opium was
confiscated and 45.225 tons of hashish, 22.176 tons of heroin, 14.455 tons of
morphine, and 14.375 tons of other types of illicit drugs, he added.
In addition, Hosseinabadi stated that 951 kilos of crystal meth (methamphetamine) and over 14 million ecstasy tablets were also seized by the police.
