Mohammad Bagher Zolghadar
Iran's Head of Judiciary, Sadegh Larijani,
anounced Mohammad Bagher Zolghadar, former deputy commander of the Revolutionary
Guards as his new Social Protection and Crime Prevention deputy.
ILNA reports that Ayatollah Larijani has cited Zolghadar's "brilliant record and valuable experience" as the criterion for his selection.
Mohammad Bagher Zolghadar has also served as the Security Adviser of the Ministry of Interior. Later he was appointed by the Supreme Leader as the deputy to Basij Forces.
The fifty-one-year-old native of Shiraz started his career in the Islamic Republic by joining the Revolutionary Committees in the early days of the 1979 Revolution of Iran, and later joined the Revolutionary Guards.
He gained prominence in the Islamic Republic establishment through his service in the Iran-Iraq war.
During the presidency of reformist president Mohammad Khatami, he is one of the Revolutionary Guards commanders that fiercely opposed the policies of the reform government.
