Winner of Farhang Foundation's 2011 Nowruz Banner Contest Selected

With over 100 designs submitted globally

LOS ANGELES, CA, December 1, 2010 - Farhang Foundation announced today that it has selected the winner of its 2011 Nowruz Banner Contest, which had called on the public to submit original design concepts for the Foundation's Third Annual Nowruz (Iranian New Year) Celebration at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on March 13, 2011.

A non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating and promoting Iranian art, culture, and heritage for the benefit of the community at large, Farhang Foundation engaged the general public to help promote Nowruz in Los Angeles and received over 100 submissions from participants within the U.S. and abroad.

Farhang Foundation has selected Nasrin Beyraghdar, a graphic designer from Irvine, California, as the winner of the 2011 Nowruz Banner Contest. Her design concept will be featured on Farhang's Nowruz banners, which will be displayed along the Wilshire Corridor, Westwood Boulevard, and other parts of town.

Farhang Foundation will unveil the new banner design in early January 2011, once it has obtained the necessary permits, as required by the City of Los Angeles.

"I was really excited when I first learned that Farhang Foundation had opened a contest of this nature," said Beyraghdar. "I felt this would be a great opportunity to merge my passion for artistry and my heritage, especially in honor of a celebration like Nowruz, at the heart of which is the idea of renewal and the emergence of awareness."

Since 2009, Farhang Foundation has marked the occasion of Nowruz with a festive day of programs to enthusiastic crowds at the LACMA. This celebration - free of charge and open to Los Angelenos of all backgrounds - has fast become one of theFoundation's signature programs, and its banners are one of its most recognizable features.

"We were thrilled by the amount and quality of submissions we received by artists from all over the world for our very first Nowruz Banner Contest." said Bita Milanian, executive director of Farhang Foundation. "It was difficult to choose just one winner, but we feel that Nasrin has captured the essence of this wonderful holiday perfectly.  Congratulations to her, and thanks to everyone who participated."
