Iran: All Guangzhou gold medalists to get apartments, married or unmarried!

Two more special prizes would be given to two special athletes.

All Iranian athletes who won gold medals in different sport fields in the 2010 Asian Games will each receive a housing unit, head of Physical Education Organization Ali Saeedlou announced Saturday.


Khadijeh Azadpour will also receive a special prize for being Iran's first woman gold medalist since establishment of Islamic revolution

Previous reports had indicated that only the married gold athletes would be eligible to get a housing unit. But, Saeedlou said, each and every 20 gold athletes would receive 150 pieces of gold coins as well as a housing unit.

The other athletes who won silver or bronze medals would receive 75 and 50 gold coins respectively.

Two more special prizes would be given to two special athletes, Persian service of ISNA quoted Saeedlou as saying.

The special prizes will go to Khadijeh Azadpour, the first Iranian female athlete who won a gold medal since the establishment of the Islamic Republic and Jasem Vishgahi who materialized the achievement of the 20th gold medal by the Iranian sports caravan, as had been predicted by the country's sport authorities. Saeed-lou did not elaborate on the nature of the special prizes.

Azadpour won gold medal in Wushu and Vishgahi in karate.

Immediately after Azadpour won her gold medal, it was officially reported that an extra 50 gold coins would be given to her. According to later reports, she was told that she could receive a housing unit only if she was married.

The 16th Asian Games was held in Guangzhou, China, November 12-27.
