The special prizes will go to Khadijeh Azadpour, the first Iranian female athlete who won a gold medal since the establishment of the Islamic Republic and Jasem Vishgahi who materialized the achievement of the 20th gold medal by the Iranian sports caravan, as had been predicted by the country's sport authorities. Saeed-lou did not elaborate on the nature of the special prizes.

Azadpour won gold medal in Wushu and Vishgahi in karate.
Immediately after Azadpour won her gold medal, it was officially reported that an extra 50 gold coins would be given to her. According to later reports, she was told that she could receive a housing unit only if she was married.
The 16th Asian Games was held in Guangzhou, China, November 12-27.
