Jailed Iranian journalist, Abdolreza Tajik released

Abdolreza Tajik, jailed Iranian journalist was released today after over six months in Evin Prison.

Tajik was earlier arrested twice in the post-election protests to the alleged fraud in the re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2009 and released on bail. He was then summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence in June of this year and arrested a third time and kept incarcerated until last night.

Abdolreza Tajik has collaborated with several reformist newspapers such as Bonyan, Shargh and Bahar and was charged with "propaganda against the Islamic Republic and membership in the Human Rights Defenders Centre."

Tajik was awarded the 2010 Journalist of the Year award on December 9 by Reporters Without Borders which in his absence was received by Shirin Ebadi, Iranian Nobel Peace laureate and one of the founders of the Human Rights Defenders Centre.

Tajik's sister, Parvin Tajik was also sentenced to 18 months in prison for pursuing her brother's case. She was charged with "propaganda activities against the regime" and "disturbing public opinion" by giving interviews to the foreign media.
