The reformist party Etemad-e Melli, headed by
opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi, has issued a statement on the occasion of
the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. Etemad-e Melli has analyzed the
causes of the current crisis and made comprehensive proposals to resolve the
problems country is facing.

Saham news
the party's website published the announcement adding that the "real demands of
the people" will thus be clarified.
The reformist party announces that it has proposed the national poll because the
current situation of Iran is "miles from the goals" set in the early days of the
Revolution.
"Using religion as a tool, discrimination and inequality amongst ethnicities and
religions, indifference of the authorities to the will of the people and using
violence in resolving debates" are amongst the list of issues that the
announcement describes as unfamiliar to the language of the 1979 Revolution.
It also condemns "violations of the constitution and of the basic provisions of
justice."
Etemed-e Melli Organization urges the Islamic Republic establishment to "hear
the cries of the nation and end their obstinacy against the people."
The Islamic Republic authorities still regards election protesters as a
"deceived and foreign-backed elements" group of the society and warned that they
will confront them without leniency.
Despite all warning, protesters have announced that they will stage further
demonstrations on February 11 to reaffirm the protests against the alleged
election fraud that brought Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to another term at presidency.
The reformist organization also renewed its call to supporters of the Green
Movement to join the February 11 demonstrations emphasizing once more that
protesters should refrain from engaging in slogans that are against the
foundations of the Islamic Republic system and stay clear of all provocations
that might try to " draw the peaceful presence of the people into violence."

The main demands of the people are listed in this
statement as follows:
- The immediate and unconditional release of
all political prisoners.
- Providing open atmosphere for the media and
press, recognizing criticism, having justice in using the national media
(state-run TV and radio) for all the layers of people and different
political groups
- Removing the obstacles against the
activities of different political organizations, groups and parties.
- Removing the security atmosphere, the police
state and the fear environment.
- Removing the appointed oversight on
elections (Guardian Council) and holding free elections and preventing fraud
in elections
- Preventing armed forces in economical and
political affairs of the country
- Putting an end to the shameful resemblances
made by some media outlets and authorities between the true owners of the
revolution, honorable veterans of the Iran-Iraq war and allies of Imam
Khomeini (the Green leaders and senior reformist figures) with terrorist who
betray their homeland and nation and using this lay the grounds to repress
them. These movements don't even show respect to Imam Khomeini and in order
to achieve their hideous goals distort and selectively use Imam Khomeini's
remarks so that the family of Imam Khomeini
has strongly objected
to this as well.
- Following justified methods in the judiciary
and holding open trials with the presence of juries when dealing with
political charges and executing all the principles of the constitution in
these cases.
- Holding referendum to discover the clear and
lawful opinion of the nation regarding some of the most important issues of
the country.
The Etemad Melli party urged Grand Ayatollahs,
religious figure, scholars and intellectuals, academia, students and all
different classes of the society to have wise presence in all aspects and by
resisting any violation from the fundamental goals of the Islamic Revolution,
make the conditions suitable for resolving the current crisis and don't let the
revolution get in the hands of deceitful and untrustworthy individuals.
