Abbas Kiarostami's "Shirin" with a brief appearance by Juliette Binoche will open this year's Image of an Artist, a documentary film festival, here on Saturday at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF).
This is the movie's first public premiere in Iran. The screening will be
followed by a review session with Kiarostami, crew member Mohammadreza Delpak,
and film critics Ahmad Talebinejad and Javad Tusi in attendance.
The session will continue with the screening of a documentary produced about the
movie by Hamideh Razavi.
Shirin depicts the audience's emotional involvement with the story. The film
is made from simple close-up shots of faces as they themselves watch it and all
the people featured in the close-ups are women. Everything is angled toward a
specific end, and the film they are watching is the 800-year-old Persian love
story of Khosrow and Shirin.
Mahnaz Afshar, Golshifteh Farahani, Niki Karimi and Taraneh Alidusti are among
the Iranian cast members of "Shirin".
The 7th edition of the festival will feature some 47 films in the Youth category
and 207 movies in the Free category.
This is the first time the forum will be holding two separate openings for the
Image of the year events.
The 7th edition of the "Image of the Year" exhibit will open a week later on
February 27 at which time Iranian artists will be displaying artworks in
different sections of photo, cartoon, and graphic designs.
The two events will continue until March 15 at the forum located on Musavi St.,
off Taleqani Ave.
