23 February - 10 April 2010, VERSO Artecontemporanea, Torino - ITALY
continues its innovative curatorial project with the group
exhibition IRAN diVERSO: Black Or White?
This exhibition starts off from the aim of showing the truth and the complexity of Iranian contemporary art.
The show exclusively includes "Black
and White" works which lead to a reflection on the question "does
the world really need "Black and White" perceptions to recognise a
reality?" In this context, "Black and White" are not synonyms of
right or wrong, good or bad; they underline the diversity and the
complexity of a Nation.
For centuries Iranian artists have
created fabulous imagery based on traditional narrative; a fantastic
world away from the harshness of everyday life. Yet, Iran is today
in metamorphosis and artists do not attempt to disguise or hide
reality anymore. On the contrary, it is the everyday aspect of their
lifestyle that has the main role and is embodied in the most
innovative artworks. All this, together with a young and vibrant
critique of society and regime, make the Iranian art scene one of
the most animated in the Asian continent.
