Photos by Amin Nazari, ISNA

Following photos show an elementary school, setup in tents and open space, to educate children of nomads living in the margins of city of Ahvaz in southwestern Iran.

Nomadic people are communities of people who move from one place to another, rather than settling permanently in one location. There are an estimated 30-40 million nomads in the world. Many cultures have traditionally been nomadic, but traditional nomadic behavior is increasingly rare in industrialized countries.

The city of Ahvaz is the capital of the Iranian province of Khuzestan. It is built on the banks of the Karun River and is situated in the middle of Khuzestan Province. The city has an average elevation of 20 meters above sea level. The city had a population of 1,338,126 in 2006.
