Survey Explores Views Concerning Post Election
Developments in Iran
Washington,
D.C. - The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) will be
holding a congressional briefing on Thursday, January 28, 2010 to present the
findings of its 2009 National Public Opinion Survey of Iranian Americans. The
national poll, conducted by Zogby International, explores the attitudes and
views of Iranian Americans relating to recent developments in Iran.
"As a national organization dedicated to reinforcing and serving the Iranian
American community in the context of the larger U.S. society, PAAIA will
continue to commission scientific surveys to gauge the community's perceptions
and interests, and share its findings with the government, researchers and the
media," said Mahasti Afshar, PAAIA's Executive Director. The 2009 survey
specifically explores the attitudes and views of Iranian Americans on issues
such as recent developments in Iran, U.S.-Iran relations, and the Obama
Administration's response to recent events in Iran.
Following the presentation of the findings by
PAAIA's Executive Director, Dr. Mahasti Afshar, a panel of Iran experts will be
on hand to discuss the potential implications of such results on U.S. policy
vis-à-vis Iran and how they should inform members of Congress and other
policymakers in formulating policy. The panelists include: Geneive Abdo, The
Century Foundation; Patrick Clawson, the Washington Institute for Near East
Policy; Kenneth Katzman, Congressional Research Service; and Ali Reza Nader,
RAND Corporation.
"One of PAAIA's core aspirations is to create a
representative, nationally recognized voice for Iranian Americans-a community
that takes great pride in its tremendous achievements and contributions to the
U.S.," explained Afshar. "This survey serves that goal by helping us better
understand their views and brings their voice to the American public as well as
U.S. policy makers and opinion makers, unfiltered and direct."
