Iran expresses regret over Afghanistan confab in London

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran expresses regret over outcome of London's conference on Afghanistan saying it is a too heavy obligation to solve Afghanistan's problem.

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Sunday, the outcome of London's conference statement violates countries independence and national sovereignty.

He also criticized London statement's double standards towards the terrorism phenomenon saying, "it indicates the incapability of foreign troops from getting out of Afghanistan's problem and an attempt to divert the world and region's public opinion from their policies failure in Afghanistan."

He then asserted that the Britain's stance regarding Tehran's not attending the confab had no influence on Iran's position in resolving Afghanistan problem.

He also emphasized British government's negative role in settling Afghanistan's crisis including its campaign against narcotics and its attempt for reconciliation with extremists.

Iran believes that regional approach is the most appropriate option to settle Afghanistan's issue and welcomes any measure in this regard, he said.

Iran has been the initiator of regional conferences and particularly the triple meetings of Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan in different levels and will continue this policy, he added.

Miliband had said regarding Iran's not participating in the conference, "We think it's deeply regrettable and as well as inexplicable that they failed to attend."
