Iranian human rights activists Nargess Mohammadi released on bail

Nargess Mohammadi, Chief Deputy of Iran's Human Rights Defenders was released last night from Evin Prison. The Revolutionary Court has reportedly approved her release on a $50,000 bail. Nargess Mohammadi, who is also secretary general of the National Peace Council, was arrested last month at her home.

The National Peace Council is a coalition of Iranian writers, artists, lawyers, women, university students, union activists and representatives of ethnic minorities as well as political groups that are engaged in peace and human rights activities.

Kaleme Website also reports that Alireza Beheshti Shirazi, Mir Hosein Mousavi's chief aide and editor-in-chief of Kaleme newspaper was finally given a trial date.

Beheshti Shirazi was arrested last December along with other Mousavi aides and has been in Evin Prison since.

He is incarcerated in section 305 of Evin Prison and will get his trial on August first.

Iranian security forces have arrested thousands of people in the past year in response to the protests against the alleged vote fraud that brought Mahmoud Ahmadinejad back to power.
