Iranian opposition leader, MirHosein Mousavi rejected the idea that the Green Movement needs the "emergence of a leader" and stated that the plurality contained in this Movement is the highest hope for the future of the Iranian nation.
The disputing candidate of the 2009 presidential elections claimed a commitment to the absolute execution of the constitution is the connecting point of all the various forces of the Green Movement and added: "We believe the path to growth and development runs through a free and competitive election."
Kaleme website cited Mousavi saying: "On the path to achieving people's control over their own destinies, remaining committed to a written text will protect us from the danger of dictatorship in the future."
A number of political activists have called for the selection of a leader to represent the recent protests and some have looked at MirHosein Mousavi to take on this responsibility.
In the meantime, Mousavi has never referred to himself as the leader of the Green Movement and in all his announcements; he has merely introduced himself as a member of the opposition movement.
In his speech to the Path of Imam Youth today, he repeated his stance emphasizing: "We have not defined the converging point of all the various dialogues in the Green Movement as the emergence of a leader."
