Mahboubeh Mobasheri, president of Al-Zahra University in Tehran announced the institution had decided to dismiss 13 members of its faculty citing their "academic decline" as the cause.
Mobasheri told Mehr news agency that in addition
to these 13 dismissed faculty members, "those members of the faculty who have
remained associate professors for a long period and not achieved promotion, will
also be dismissed."
She added that any professor that has a dispute regarding the dismissals can appeal to the relevant university committee.
Last week, four members of Shahid Beheshti University and five members of Khajeh Nassir University were also dismissed for similar reasons.
Last December, Minister of Science, Kamran Daneshjoo announced that the universities will not tolerate professors that do not prescribe to the Islamic worldview.
Iranian opposition claims that the wave of early retirements and dismissals in the universities is a political move in reaction to the reform movement in the country.
