Iranian Reformist Returns to Evin Prison

Prominent Iranian reform figure, Mohsen Aminzadeh returned to Evin Prison yesterday after five months of release on bail.

Aminzadeh was released on February 11 after 238 days in Prison on a $700, 000 dollar bail and Kaleme website reports that the former deputy foreign minister returned to prison since his leave was not renewed.

Aminzadeh, an executive member of the reformist organization, Islamic Iran Participation Front was arrested in the wave of arrests that followed widespread protests to the alleged fraud in the 2009 presidential elections and spent 120 days of his arrest in solitary confinement.

He was charged with "assembly and collusion against national security and propaganda against the regime" and sentenced to 6 years in prison which was later reduced to five years in the appellate court.

In the post-election protests several members of the Islamic Iran Participation Front were arrested and the reformist organization was recently banned from political activity.
