Sixteen detainees in section 350 of Evin Prison have reportedly started a hunger strike. Kaleme website reports that these sixteen individuals who were transferred to solitary confinement have started a hunger strike in protest to their transfer.
The detainees were transferred because of their
protests against "being ill-treated" by the prison officials.
Reportedly amongst the detainees were Bahman Ahmadi Amouyi and Keyvan Samimi, two journalists who started a hunger strike as soon as they were transferred to the solitary on Monday. The other fourteen were transferred to the solitary later on Tuesday and joined the hunger strike.
The detainees demand an apology from the officials and a return to the general section of the prison.
The Islamic Republic has arrested thousands of people in an attempt to quell widespread protests to the alleged electoral fraud which led to reelection of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Many of these people have been sentenced to heavy prison terms and scores have reported being mistreated in prison.
