Following the formal letter of request by Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi addressed to the Governor of Tehran for permit to hold rally on the anniversary of the tenth disputed presidential election (June 12th), eight reformist parties and organizations in a separate letter of request asked for permit to hold rally on the anniversary of the presidential election.
In a joint letter that was signed by The Assembly of Former Members of the Parliament, The Mojahedin of Islamic Revolution Organization, The Islamic Association of Medical Society of Iran, The Association of Women Journalists, The Assembly of Alumni of Islamic Iran, The Islamic Iran Participation Front, The National Will Party and The Assembly of Followers of Imam, these eight reformist parties and groups according to the Article 27 of the constitution* formally asked for permit to hold rally on the anniversary of tenth presidential election on June 12th from Imam Hossein Square to Azadi Square in Tehran at 4:00PM local time.
A copy of this letter was sent to the Governor of Tehran but the authorities in the office of the governor refused to accept the letter saying that they can only give permits for rallies that are held in close spaces and this is out of their jurisdiction but the Interior Ministry has received a copy of this letter.
* Article 27 of Islamic Republic's constitution [Freedom of Assembly] : Public gatherings and marches may be freely held, provided arms are not carried and that they are not detrimental to the fundamental principles of Islam.
