Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari has stated that the Iranian Navy will reciprocate any inspection of the Iranian ships if Majlis authorizes the move.
At a meeting with MPs on Monday, Sayyari said that the Iranian Navy will not allow foreign forces to "weaken the authority of the system."
The recent United Nations sanctions resolution against Iran allows the inspection of Iranian ships.
"We will reciprocate the inspection of Iranian trade ships against any possible threat, if Majlis representatives approve the measure," he stated.
During the meeting, Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi praised the Navy for its efforts to secure Iranian waters and noted that "our brave" forces will not tolerate any "unilateral inspection" of the Iranian ships.
He also said that through cooperation with neighboring Arab states, Iran should show the exit door to foreign forces in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
IRGC Navy Commander Ali Fadavi also said on Tuesday that "The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy develops its strategy in accordance with any new threats."
