Dear
readers
As we mentioned in our
article in January 2008, the City
of Geneva will soon be lucky enough to have a wonderful Persian Garden and
recently we were informed by the steering committee in charge of the project
of the latest news. Please do not hesitate to start such a garden somewhere
near you and to help this wonderful project in any way that you can.
Warmest regards to you all,
Syma Sayyah
A Persian Garden
The
desire to enrich the City of Geneva's cultural and botanical patrimony by giving
it a ''Persian Garden'' was born three years ago. Particularly suited to
Geneva's international role and reputation, the Persian Garden symbolizes peace
and harmony.
The
conception and planning of this public Garden has had to take into account the
precise aesthetics of traditional Persian Gardens. Accordingly, the Persian
Garden of Geneva Association has been advised by specialists in the fields of
Architecture, Landscaping and Horticulture from around the world.
UNESCO
has defined this Persian Garden Project as ''a symbol of peace and love,
overcoming political and cultural barriers''.

The City
of Geneva has now granted the Association appropriate land within the Parc des
Franchises and will maintain the Garden in perpetuity.

The
Association's efforts are now concentrated on gathering the necessary funds for
the construction and plantations, estimated at CHF 1,300,000 ($1,200,000), or
about CHF 680 ($625) per square meter. Because the Association has been
recognized as being of public interest, all donations are tax deductible in
Switzerland.
The
Association needs your support. Will you sow some seeds with us?

The
Persian Garden of Geneva is a living sanctuary where botanic, landscaping and
architectural concepts unite to create a metaphor of ''Heaven on Earth'' or
''Paradise''.
A
place where all human senses are aroused in a soul-lifting and contemplative
journey around the fundamental and natural elements comprising plants, water &
natural stones.

Chehel Sotoon, Isfahan
Three
years ago, this exciting project took shape following a group of conferences
organized by the ILLA Association on "The Persian Garden" and held
at the "Musée d'Art et d'Histoire of Geneva". From the beginning this project
has found many supporters, encouraging us to realize the first Persian Garden in
the western world.
Today, we
are pleased to announce that the "Parc des Franchises" in the heart of
the city of Geneva will be the future site of the Garden. Indeed, the city of
Geneva approved by Mr. Tornare, at the time mayor of Geneva, offered this unique
opportunity. We are very grateful that the city of Geneva has also agreed to
cover the maintenance costs of the garden.

Eram Garden, Shiraz
We hope
that you will pledge your financial support to the project. As a sign of
gratitude, the name of the generous donors will be listed on an official plaque
at the entrance of the garden. Moreover, the State of Geneva and the Swiss
Confederation consider our project as being of public utility. Thus, any
donation to the project will be subject to tax exemption.
In the
coming months, the challenge is to secure the funds necessary for the
construction and planting of this garden. The estimated cost for this project is
approximately CHF 1,300,000, ($1,200,000) meaning that each square meter will
cost about CHF 680 ($625).

A garden in Shiraz
This
garden will deliver a message of harmony and peace and would be an important
addition to Geneva‟s
cultural and international treasuries with an echo beyond the city's borders. We
are proud to announce that this project has recently been endorsed by UNESCO as
a "universal symbol of peace and love that has crossed political and cultural
boundaries".
