Haedeh Zarrinbal was born in Tehran, Iran in
1946. She received her primary school education in Iran's oil rich city of Ahvaz
after her family was transferred there due to her father's work. She then went
on to graduate from the Tehran College of Fine Arts in 1970. She spent the
following seventeen years of her life teaching at various Iranian universities
and institutions.
Meanwhile she collaborated with the Graphics
Department of UNICEF in Ahvaz and with the Cinematographic Section of the
Institution for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults in
Tehran. Her background boasts seven solo and over twenty group exhibitions in
Ahvaz, Tehran, Dubai, Basle, New York, Chicago and Dakka.
A collection of Ms. Zarrinbal's works has been
bought by the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art where she held a solo
exhibition. This painter mostly works with oil and acrylic on canvas. She also
does collages. Ms. Zarrinbal's works are highly inspired by Persian carpet and
gilim designs and she has mastered the art of turning them into contemporary
abstract paintings. She has wed old Iranian motifs and colors in her works. Few
painters have mastered the use of the Persian blue the way she has. Her colors
define the majesty of ancient Persia and yet bespeak of the warmth and passion
of contemporary Iran. Haedeh Zarrinbal presently lives and works in Tehran.
