Opposition
leader Mehdi Karroubi urged Iranian judiciary to rescind the death sentence of
Mohammad Amin Valian. Mohammad Amin Valian is an Ashura Day detainee who has
been handed a death sentence for the charge of enmity with God (Moharebeh).
In a report published on Saham News, Mehdi
Karroubi declared that the charge of "Moharebeh" has been distorted in recent
months.
Ali Mohammad Zamani and Arash Rahmanipour were executed recently for the charge
of "Moharebeh."
Recently Iranian authorities and supporters
of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have been labelling election protesters with the charge
of "Mohareb", or enemy of God.
Reports
about the execution sentence of Mohammad Amin Valian have attracted widespread
reaction across the world. Human rights organizations and reformist clerics have
condemned the sentence and even the US urged the Islamic Republic to rescind the
sentence.
Today Tehran Prosecutor-General announced that the sentence of Valian has not
been pronounced yet and once he receives the sentence he still has the
opportunity to appeal it.
