Iranian filmmaker Rakhshan Bani-Etemad was selected for the International Jury at the 24th Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) that is running from March 13 to 20 in Switzerland.
Bani-Etemad's "We are Half of Iran's Population" will also go on screen in a
special screening session during the event. The film deals with the role of
women in Iranian society.
Also included in the festival is "Tehroun", an Iran-France co-production directed by Nader Homayun. The movie takes its title from Tehran's inner-city slang pronunciation of the city's name.
The Colombian road movie "Los Viajes del Viento" by Ciro Guerra will open the
festival this year.
The Argentinean thriller "El secreto de sus Ojos" by Juan José Campanella will close the festival on a celebratory note. The movie just won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film this year.
"Canary Yellow", "Foreign Currency", "Nargess", "The Blue-Veiled", "The May Lady", "Under the Skin of the City" and "Mainline" are among Bani-Etemad's other credits.
Bani-Etemad was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of London in July 2009. She also received the Prix Henri Langlois at the French festival for her collection of cinematic productions last month.
