On November 25, 2006, Narges and her friends suffered severe burns
at an elementary school in
Shiraz, central
Iran, when a
portable heater they were using to keep warm fell on the ground and a fire
spread in the class. The students only exit route had been blocked by the fire.

Maryam Norouzi, Leila Kohan, Parisa Taheri, Samaneh Azimi Mohammad Hassan
Shirouyeh, Reza Haghighi and Narges Haidari were the eight-year-old students who
were victims of this tragedy. After one or two surgeries, the condition of some
of the children has improved. Narges, however, continues to suffer the
consequences of this incident caused by negligence of the school authorities and
lack of appropriate funding for schools in Iran.
