Iran's National Persian Gulf Day was celebrated on Friday April 30, 2010 in the
southern city of Bandar Abbas. A large group of people participated in this
event.

Persian Gulf,
in the
Southwest Asian region, is an extension of the Indian Ocean located between
Iran and the Arabian Peninsula.
The natural environment of the Persian Gulf is
very rich with good fishing grounds, extensive coral reefs, and abundant pearl
oysters, but its ecology has become increasingly under pressure from the heavy
industrialization and in particular the repeated major petroleum spillages
associated with recent wars fought in the region.
Bandar Abbas is a port
city and capital of Hormozgan Province on the southern coast of Iran, on the
Persian Gulf. The city occupies a strategic position on the narrow Straits of
Hormuz, and it is the location of the main base of the Iranian Navy. It had an
estimated population of 352,173 in 2005.
