Iran's army naval force began the first day of (Velayat-89) military drill in southern waters on Wednesday. The maneuver covers Strait of Hormuz and northern part of Indian Ocean and will be held in 6 phases.
It involves logistic and martial commands as well as Iran's army air force fighters and air defense systems.
The second day of the drill will be launched on Thursday.
The new war game will last for eight days and cover a span of about 250,000 square kilometers in Iranian territorial waters.
The exercise is to show Iran's might in southern high seas, its full control of shipping in the region to provide navigation's safety in confrontation against terrorism and piracy, Commander of the Iranian Army Naval Force Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Tuesday.
He continued weapons and equipments as well as naval forces' defense achievements including Jamaran destroyer will be employed in the war game.
The exercise involves 6 phases including psychological operations, launches and technical phases, he said adding units of air and ground forces of Iran's army will take part in the maneuver.
He added the maneuver sends the message of peace and friendship for regional countries.
"We say to all regional countries that we represent no threat to any state and we belive that they are not a threat to us as well."
"We want to send the signal that there is no need to the presence of foreign forces in the region and Iran stands very serious against threats."
