Ali Farokhmanesh Northern Iowa guard has been
invited to Iran basketball team, according to the team's manager.
The 5-foot-11 guard, who was born in Washington to an Iranian father and an American mother, does not have an Iranian passport, yet the Iranian basketball officials hope that he can travel to Tehran to take part in the training.
Farokhmanesh made the cover page of Sports Illustrated, March 29 issue
"We are interested in having Farokhmanesh in our
team, but first we have to solve his passport problem," Hassan Nourbakhsh said.
Farokhmanesh will likely be the third Iranian player to play for the national team. Hamed Haddadi and Arsalan Kazemi, who play in Memphis Grizzlies and Rice respectively, will accompany Iran basketball team in the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
Iran has been drawn in Group B along with the U.S., Slovenia, Brazil, Croatia, Brazil and Tunisia.
