Ezzatossadat Miri, mother of imprisoned journalist Badrossadat Mofidi, published a letter written to Tehran Prosecutor General criticizing the "inappropriate" treatment of her daughter and "Muslim women" in the Islamic Republic.
The letter was sent to Abbas Jafari Dowlatabdi in
March and since it remained unanswered, Mrs. Miri published the letter today,
May 12 on a number of media outlets.
Miri writes: "Is it right to put my daughter who suffers from heart complications and anaemia in solitary confinement?"
She indicates that her daughter is being pressured to make false confessions.
"Will God accept such abuse of Muslim women by an Islamic regime?" mother of the imprisoned journalist asks.
Badrossadat Mofidi, secretary general of Iranian Journalists Association, was arrested following Ashura Day protests in December along with her husband.
While her husband was released, Ms. Mofidi remains incarcerated in Evin Prison.
Since the beginning of the post election protests against the controversial re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, tens of newspapers have been closed down and scores of journalists arrested.
Reporters Without Borders has repeatedly expressed grave concern over the health of these imprisoned journalists which according to their families are even denied necessary medical needs.
