Kaleme website quotes Mousavi saying that the reason people are "receptive" to the Green Movement is that "it matches their religious beliefs."

The opposition leader thus criticized the government's confrontation with people in the name of religion saying: "There must be no actions taken in the name of Islam and religion that may, god forbid, compromise these beliefs and faith."

He went on to criticize the Islamic Republic prisons claiming the Prophet Mohammad would never approve of them.

He added: "Today people question the methods of these people who are in charge and claim to be Muslims, wondering what they have in common with the behaviour of Fatemeh Zahra (daughter of Prophet Mohammad) who had the title of honesty and avoided any form of lie or straying from the truth?"

Mir Hossein Mousavi has repeatedly condemned the establishment for its harsh actions against dissidents and called these actions in violation of Islamic principles.
