Children of Iran and Iraq to celebrate peace on ship

Iranian and Iraqi school children will celebrate peace in their lives on the deck of a ship on a border river in the southern region of Iran.

Iran and Iraq fought a devastating war from 22 September 1980 to 20 August 1988. with the following estimated Casualties and losses

Iran:
500,000 to 1,000,000 dead
Iranian government official figure of 188,015 soldiers, militia, and civilians killed
Economic loss of more than US$500 billion
Iraq:
Estimated 700,000 soldiers, militia, and civilians killed or wounded
Economic loss of more than US$500 billion

School children from the Iranian cities of Abadan and Khorramshahr, and the Iraqi cities of Basra and Faw will hold a celebration in remembrance of the first day of the Iran-Iraq war in 1980 on September 21.

The program is arranged by Iranian artists in collaboration with the Embassy of Iraq in Tehran.

The peace ship will promote programs of happiness for children from the war-stricken regions of both countries promising a future free from war. Several Iranian and Iraqi children programs' hosts will be participating in the program as well.

Several Palestinian, Lebanese and Afghan children are also invited to the program.

Actor Parviz Parastuii, writer Morteza Sarhangi, and Habib Ahmadzadeh filmmaker Kiumars Purahmad will be contributing to the program.

The celebration is cosponsored by the Sacred Defense Cinema Association, Art Bureau, and Tehran's Museum of Peace.
