A bomb hit a bus carrying Iranian pilgrims in the holy city of Karbala in central Iraq on Monday, killing 3 people and injuring 22 others, announced the representative of Iran Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization in Iraq.
"The explosion killed 3 and injured 22 Iranians. All of the
injured people have been transferred to a hospital," Javad Khani told the Mehr
"The rest of the victims were Iraqis," Khani added.
Earlier, AFP had reported that a car bomb exploded near a mosque in Karbala, killing at least 10 people and injuring 38, most of them Iranian pilgrims.
According to the report, the bomber drew his booby-trapped vehicle up next to the bus carrying the Iranian pilgrims and then detonated his payload.
"It was a suicide bomber who drove up against a bus carrying Iranian pilgrims and detonated the explosives," a police official told AFP.
No person or group has yet claimed responsibility for the deadly bombing.
Karbala, which hosts the shrine of Imam Hussein (PBUH), attracts hundreds of Iranian Shias every day.
