Feminist School website reports that Sotoudeh's husband along
with her brother and sister managed to have a ten minute visit with Sotoudeh in
Evin Prison today.
Sotoudeh's husband, Reza Khandan reported that Sotoudeh has stopped her dry hunger strike at the urge of her friends and supporters but has decided to continue with her hunger strike since the judiciary refuses to address her protests against her charges and the legal proceedings against her.
Sotoudeh started the second round of her hunger strike nine days ago after the judiciary officials refused to address her concerns.
She had broken an earlier hunger strike after assurances from the judiciary that they will hear out her demands.
Reza Khandan reports that his wife looks very weak and has lost over ten kilos. He also added that Sotoudeh has informed him that she has passed out twice.
Sotoudeh has informed her husband that at least three judiciary officials have told she would be released on bail but failed to stand by their promise. Therefore, she has decided to continue her hunger strike.
Nasrin Sotoudeh is a prominent Iranian lawyer who had taken on the cases of several post-election political detainees. Her practice in mainly concentrated however on women's rights, cases involving social activists as well as juvenile offenders sentenced to death.
The Islamic Republic has accused her of "activities against national security and propaganda against the regime." Her connections with the Defenders of Human Rights Centre, a human rights organization founded by Iranian lawyers including Iranian Nobel Peace Laureate, Shirin Ebadi, has also been cited as a reason for her arrest.
