Iranian weightlifters have brought national pride given their fine performance at the 16th edition of the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. Iran's weightlifting champion Behdad Salimi won the gold medal in men's +105 kg category on Friday after he lifted a total of 440 kilograms overhead.

Another Iranian athlete Sajjad Anoushiravani fetched the bronze medal.
On Wednesday, Iranian weightlifter Asghar Ebrahimi claimed the
silver medal in men's 94 kg category with the total lift of 362 kilogram. Ilya
Ilyin of Kazakhstan won the gold medal after he lifted a total of 394 kilograms
overhead. South Korean Kim Min Jae secured the third place.
Iranian athletes have so far taken their tally to 28 medals at the 2010 Asian Games. They have snatched 8 gold, 7 silver and 13 bronze medals up till now.
Chinese athletes are leading the medal tally list with a total
of 233, followed by South Koreans, who managed to fetch 126 medals altogether.
China has up to now bagged 124 gold, 54 silver and 55 bronze medals. The South Koreans have managed to get 42 gold, 36 silver and 48 bronze medals.
Japan is third with 24 gold, 48 silver and 51 bronze medals. Iran ranks fourth in the ongoing event.
The 16th Asian Games opened in Guangzhou, China, on November 12. A total of 476 events in 42 sports will be contested by athletes from 45 countries until November 27.
