The Iranian volleyball squad has beaten Qatar to book a berth in the semifinals of the 16th edition of the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
The Iranians came from behind to defeat Qatar 3-1 (16-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-14) on Sunday and are scheduled to take on Thailand on Wednesday.
In the other match of this round, South Korea and Japan will clash for a spot in the final.
Also on Sunday, the Iranian national basketball team narrowly defeated Taiwan 73 to 72.
Asghar Kardoust and Lin Chih-chieh were the high scorers of the game with 22 points.
Iranian basketball players have defeated the Philippines and India so far and are standing at the top of their group with only one loss, which came against Japan.
The Iranian b-ballers play Qatar on Monday.
In the hammer throw, Kaveh Mousavi won a silver medal with a 68.9-meter throw.
So far in the medal tally, China is leading with a total of 287 medals (146 golds), South Korea is in second place with 162 medals (55 golds), and Japan stands in the third spot with 145 medals (30 golds).
Iranian wrestlers Omid Norouzi and Saeed Abdvali each won gold medals in the Greco-Roman style on the 10th day of the competition to keep Iran in fourth place with 32 medals (10 golds, 8 silvers, and 14 bronzes).
Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, India, North Korea, and Malaysia are in 5th to 10th places respectively.
The 16th Asian Games will run until November 27.
