Grand Ayatollah Ali Mohammad Dastgheib, senior religious figure and member of the Assembly of Experts, in answer to a question regarding the "Absolute Supreme Leadership" by separating the two subjects of "Absolute" Supreme Leadership and the Supreme Leadership that is chosen by the Assembly of Experts, stated: "The Supreme Leader that is chosen by the Assembly of Experts is only responsible to coordinate between the three branches of the government (Legislation, Executive and Judiciary) and has "no right on the people".
Grand Ayatollah Dastgheib, a critic of the government, stressed that "the responsibility of the supreme leader" that is chosen by the cleric members of the Assembly of Experts, is to coordinate between the three branches of the government and has no supremacy and higher statue over the "just senior religious figures" in the Assembly of Experts who had chosen him.
Grand Ayatollah Dastgheib reiterated that: "Because the Assembly of Experts determined that a person has the ability to manage the three branches of the government from Islamic and Shia's point of view; then that person has no other rights, neither on the people nor on the other nations."
Grand Ayatollah Dastgheib added: "This individual will become Supreme Leader to govern the country and has absolutely no right to interfere in people's affairs neither in academic, scientific or cultural aspects; because all the people can benefit from the three branches of the government and this individual provides citizen's rights, meaning that he should not let the rights of a citizen be violated by any of the three branches."
Grand Ayatollah Dastgheib answered to the question about the principle of Supreme Leadership that in the recent weeks pressure on this noble cleric has increased and the subject of his trial and reviewing his qualifications for membership of the Assembly of Experts has been raised by the hardliner supporters of the government.
Also few weeks ago and on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, the pro-government thugs and plain-clothes militias attacked Qoba mosque in tihe city of Shiraz, where Grand Ayatollah Dastgheib delivers his sermons, and injured some of the worshipers.
Grand Ayatollah Dastgheib also explained the subject of "Absolute" Supreme Leadership and stressed that the absolute supreme leadership can only occur with God's will to make people's hearts ready to accept one individuals as the supreme leader with absolute powers and various classes of the people accept that individual as their leader by their own free will.
Grand Ayatollah Dastgheib also criticized the current Assembly of Experts that according to the constitution is responsible to oversight the supreme leader and added: "The current Assembly of Experts has diverted from its true nature, because first: the Guardian Council which is selected by the supreme leader vets its members and I have always said that this is a returned path (defeats the purpose); second: it is necessary that the supreme leader's religious stature of being a reference (Mojtahed) be confirmed by those senior religious references (Mojtaheds) who are oppose to personal temptations, which has not been done."
