KERMAN, Iran, Oct. 8, 2010 - Eight drug smugglers were hanged in a prison in the southeastern city of Kerman on Thursday.
Two of the smugglers were convicted of smuggling 1,165
kilograms of opium, selling weapons and ammunition; one was convicted of
partnership in smuggling 7,700 grams of heroin; the other found convicted of
taking action against national security through purchasing, storing,
distributing and selling 4,800 kilograms of opium and 150 kilograms of morphine,
Mehrnews reported on Friday.
The other smuggler was proved guilty of purchasing and storing 580 kilograms of opium and the sixth culprit pleaded guilty to membership in a smugglers gang as well as smuggling 2,317 kilograms opium.
Mehrnews' report did not include details about the other two convicts who were hanged on Thursday.
