Tehran Prosecutor, Abbas Jafari Dowlatabadi announced that Ali Shakourirad who
had been summoned to court yesterday, was arrested for a number of security
Reportedly Shakourirad's arrest is connected with the recent dissolution orders
of Iran's two reformist parties by the judiciary and the letters written in
response by the IIPF members.
The letters, which heavily criticized the spokesman of the judiciary,
Gholamhosein Mohseni Ejei, were posted on Shakourirad's website.
Two days ago, Gholamhosein Mohseni Ejei announced the judiciary's decision to
dissolve Islamic Iran Participation Front and Mojahedin of the Islamic
Revolution of Iran in a press conference.
Following the controversial presidential elections that returned Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad back to power amidst widespread allegations of vote fraud, numerous
members of the two reformist parties, which had endorsed Ahmadinejad's
opponents, were arrested and sentenced to several years in prison.
In addition, the two parties were barred from political activity, a decision
that the IIPF members contested in court in an official complaint.
The reformist party announced that the branch 27 of the court has decided in
favour of their party and reinstated their organization. However, the spokesman
for the judiciary denied this statement and maintained that the file has been
sent to a Revolutionary court and the judiciary has confirmed that the
organizations are banned from political activity.
