Deputy Interior Minister for cultural and social affairs Alireza Afshar has said the NGOs should not get involved in political activities. Elsewhere in his remarks, Afshar said Basij is the country's largest NGO.

"People-based organizations should not engage in political
activities. They can criticize the administration organizations in their private
sessions, but they should not undermine the administration in their media
outlets," Afshar said at the first meeting of the people-based organizations on
NGOs should be careful not to fall into the trap of the enemies, especially in their relations with foreign organizations, he added.
He also emphasized that no Iran-based NGO has been involved in the political unrests following the June 2009 presidential election.
"According to the latest statistics released by the Interior Ministry and police, none of the NGOs have engaged in the post-election incidents," he asserted.
