Iranian photographers win top prizes at U.S. exhibit

TEHRAN -- The 2010 PSA International Exhibition of Photography recently honored a number of Iranian photographers with gold, silver and bronze medals.

Zeynab Arabi won a gold medal in the Photojournalism Open Section Awards for her "Untitled 1" depicting an old woman behind a wall in a mosque.

Meanwhile Mohammad Tavakkoli received a silver medal in the Photojournalism Human Interest Section Awards for his "Sadness" portraying an Iranian baby boy weeping during a mourning ceremony for Imam Hussein (AS).


Photo: "Sadness" by Mohammad Tavakkoli won the silver medal of the Photojournalism Human Interest Section Awards in the 2010 PSA International Exhibition of Photography.

Tavakkoli also received honorable mention for his "Cowed" in the Photojournalism Open Section Awards. The 27-year-old photographer works for Hamshahri, a Persian daily that has the largest circulation in Iran.

"Jumping" by Alireza Hassanzadehfard and "Operation" by Amin Nazari were awarded bronze medals in the Photojournalism Open Section Awards.


Mohsen Rezaei of Mehr News Agency also received honorary mention for the above photo

The exhibition is organized annually by the Photographic Society of America (PSA), which was founded in 1934 to promote the art and science of photography.

The headquarters of PSA, which has members in 60 countries, is located in Oklahoma City, OK.
