Govt takes over Bahrain human rights group
MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) - Bahrain's government on Wednesday suspended the board of a prominent human rights group, accusing it of being too partial to the country's Shiite majority.
The government has arrested some 250 Shiite activists, and has accused 23 of them of forming a terrorist network and trying to topple the country's Sunni-dominated government.
Bahraini Interior Minister also reiterated that, "our efforts are in line with
regional stability and security under the framework of collective cooperation of
Persian Gulf neighboring states based on good neighborliness and
non-interference in other countries' efforts."
He also appreciated Iran's stance on the region and Bahrain and said, "tranquility in regional countries is beneficial for all sides and any problem for regional countries turns into a problem for all countries."
Abdollahian on his part stressed Iran has always sought unity and expansion of relations with Arab, Islamic and neighboring states, Iranian embassy in Bahrain reported.
"Islamic Republic of Iran regards regional countries' security as its own security as Iran's security is security of the whole region," the ambassador noted.
