"How Green Was Our Valley" scooped awards at the independent celebration of documentary cinema as part of the annual Iran Cinema Celebration.

The winners in the ten sections of the celebration were announced during a ceremony at Tehran's Eyvan-e Shams Theater on Tuesday.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the secretary of the celebration Farhad Towhidi made a short speech on the event and documentary cinema.

"With the current situation in Iran in which social cinema finds itself (in my belief) deliberately omitted, documentary cinema should step up and shoulder the responsibility," he said.

Documentarian Mehrdad Oskuii and documentary producer Javad Zahiri were honored at the ceremony.

Oskuii went on stage to receive his award. He said that he appreciated the veteran masters from whom he has learned including Rakhshan Bani-Etemad and Morteza Pursamadi. He said, "This is the most important moment of my life".
