Parinoush Saniee wins Boccaccio award with "My Share"

Italy has awarded its annual Giovanni Boccaccio Literary Prize to female Iranian writer, Parinoush Saniee for her debut novel, My Share.

Organized by the Giovanni Boccaccio Literary Society and Rotary Club Valdelsa, the award is granted to an Italian writer, a foreign writer and a journalist on the second Saturday of every September.

Saniee's book which depicts the personal and social lives of Iranian women was translated into Italian by Sepideh Rouhi and Narges Monsef.

My Share was first published by Iran's Rouzbehan publication in 2003 and has been reprinted many times since then, ISNA reported.

Italian writer Alessandro Baricco and Italian journalist Giovanni Minoli were the other two winners of this year's Giovanni Boccaccio Literary Prize.

Giovanni Boccaccio was an Italian author and poet, better known for his dialogue which is said to have surpassed in verisimilitude that of all his contemporaries.

An important Renaissance humanist, Boccaccio was a friend, student, and correspondent of Petrarch. The Decameron and On Famous Women are among his better-known works.
