Iran's volleyball team clinched the title of the 3rd Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship in India after beating hosts 3-0 in the final match.
Iran, a powerhouse in Asian Volleyball, settled
the issue in 83 minutes with a 25-19, 25-22, 29-27 score line at Netaji Indoor
Stadium courts in Kolkata, capital city of West Bengal state.
The hosts gave Iranians some fight in the third set which stretched to 32 minutes, but it was too little and too late.
Meanwhile, poor defense proved costly for defending champions India as it finishes runners-up.
The Indians, who dished out a power-packed performance Sunday against Pakistan, could not match up with them in speed and clinical smashes and failed to retain the title they had won in the last year's edition in Islamabad.
The third Asian senior men's volleyball championship (central zone) got off with a well-organized opening ceremony at the Netaji Indoor Stadium on Thursday.
The four-team, India, Iran, Kazakhstan and Pakistan, championship played in a single league format with the top two teams in the league played the final on Monday.
