Iran's Zob Ahan drew on Wednesday with Pohang Steelers and booked a berth in the AFC Champions League (ACL) semi-final.
The Iranian representative, who had defeated defending
champion Steelers 2-1 in the first leg in Isfahan, drew 1-1 with the team in
Pohang, Korea and secured their semi-final place with a 3-2 aggregate.
Kim Jae Sung put Pohang Steelers in the lead in the 10th minute. The Korean team controlled the match in the remaining time of first half and created some chances for more goals.
In the second half, the visiting team was dominant and put Pohang under pressure.
The Koreans had an excellent chance to score for a second time, but their striker failed to open Zob Ahan's empty goal. Shortly after, Mohammad Reza Khalatbari equalized the match with 10 minutes remaining of the match.
Zob Ahan captain Mehdi Rajabzadeh was sent off after receiving his second yellow card in the 87th minute.
It is first time Zob Ahan has qualified for the ACL semi-final stage.
