NIAC Launches Student Initiative: NIACampus

Source: National Iranian American Council (NIAC)

Iranian-American students have several avenues they can pursue when looking for support from the Iranian-American community for their professional and/or personal growth.  For example, to find out about Summer Fellowships, they turn to NIAC's website.  To learn about scholarships for law students, they go to the Iranian American Bar Association (IABA) website.  For more information about Student Summits and camps, they visit the Iranian Alliances Across Borders' (IAAB) site.  And the list goes on ...

However, to find more information about starting a student group on their campus, students have virtually nowhere to turn. In fact, as of right now, Iranian-American students and student groups across the country have no way of easily interacting and working with one another to share stories, resources and experiences.

This is where NIACampus comes in.

Recognizing the need for a one-stop-shop for information, we decided to reach out to our friends in the Iranian-American community - organizations and students - to help us create a more comprehensive and cohesive source of information for students.  NIACampus is an online resource that does not require any type of formal membership or payment.  It is a website with valuable information for students, including:

  • campus-related events and activities,
  • guidelines on how to start a student group,
  • guidelines on how to host an event and fundraiser,
  • student visa help center,
  • scholarships, fellowships, internships,
  • discounts on Princeton Review test prep classes,
  • 'Campus Connections' video series,
  • 'Professional Profiles' video series,

       ... to name a few

The site will utilize existing popular modes of communication, such as Facebook, in an effort to promote the sharing of photos, videos and announcements.  "As the founder of the Iranian Students Association (ISA) at the University of Texas at San Antonio, I am very excited about the creation of another resource to benefit Iranian-American students.  We look forward to using ISA and NIACampus to expand our reach and better serve our fellow students," said Mahdy Saedy.  "...[A]nything to promote awareness and networking within as well as outside the community will greatly serve the interests of Iranian Americans. This is a great initiative and, hopefully, will develop into a very valuable resource for Iranian-American students on all campuses to utilize," said Armin Aflaki of George Washington University's Iranian Cultural Society.

NIAC believes in giving Iranian-American students the support they need to succeed.  We're grateful to be working with our fellow Iranian-American organizations and students on this effort and look forward to growing NIACampus in an organic fashion.
