Syria and Iran's similar ways in dealing with protesters

On Wednesday a Syrian opposition and non-governmental organization that has been working for freedom of speech in this country, has disclosed a confidential document belonging to Syrian Intelligence Service. According to 30mail News agency, this confidential document reveals the Syrian governmental force's methods of dealing with protesters which is extremely similar with Iranian government's methods.


This document talks about Syrian protests and states: "The protests should not at any price be subjected towards the head of the regime (Bashar Assad)."

Furthermore this document emphasizes: "Protesters are expected to gather in crowded areas of the city to be able to attract attention, and encourage others to join them. At this point, mentioned places are to be immediately surrounded and protester's communication with the outside area is be cut off, at this point plainclothes are to enter the crowd and identify the activists."

Mentioned document states military-security force's broad authorities against people: "In case of any conflict between authorities and protesters, an explicit order against firing any concealed weapons must be issued and shooting rights are peculiar to Trained Security Forces and Snipers."

Furthermore is states: "Snipers have the right to target military personnel as well to legitimize the advertisement. This will preserve the spirit of military personnel against demonstrators." This confidential document talks about the possibility of loosing control of rallies: "If at any place, control of demonstrations get out of hand militia and Security forces are to surround the area and all internet and phone communications are to be cut off Two black and Secret forces are to come into place with support of snipers, however the number of diseased is to be no more than twenty individuals."

After the release of this document which coincided with televised confessions of arrested protesters, some Arab analysts have pointed to the similarities of Syrian;s approach and Islamic Republic's after election crackdown. In this regard Saleh Algholab analyst of Alshargh-al-vasat staes: "Syrian government's ridicules advertised scenario is very similar to Iran's against it's protesters. Who believes the reasoning of these protests to be of outside forces and terrorist groups? Who is responsible for shooting of people of government personnel at the same time? "
