Iran's Behdad Salimi crowned strongest man at Asian weightlifting championships

Iran's weightlifting champion Behdad Salimi has been crowned as the strongest man in Asia following the 2011 Asian Weightlifting Championships in China.

The 22-year-old world athlete collected three gold medals in men's +105 kg category on Sunday after he lifted 208 kilograms in the snatch and 250 kilograms in the clean and jerk at the 42nd edition of men's Asian Weightlifting Championships in China, IRNA reported.

Salimi was crowned as undisputed weightlifting championship of the event after he elevated a total of 458 kilograms overhead.

Iran's Bahador Molaei earned a bronze in the clean and jerk section of the 2011 Asian Weightlifting Championships after lifting 222 kilograms overhead. He stood second with 398 kilograms in total.

Iranian athletes took home three gold, eight silver and one bronze medals and stood in second place.

Chinese athletes led the medal tally list with a total of 31. They bagged 27 gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

North Korean athletes came in third in the race with one gold, 12 silver and four bronze medals.

The 2011 Asian Weightlifting Championships was held from April 12 to 17 in Tongling city in China. More than 300 weightlifters from over 30 countries took part in the event.
