The reformist website Jaras reported that dozens of workers at
Qazvin's textile industry staged a demonstration in front of the Presidential
Institute in Tehran on April 16, saying they had not been paid for over a year.
The next day, Fars agency reported that workers at Qazvin's Naznakh textile company protested in front of the parliament for not having received their wages for the past 16 months.
Workers at the city's Ziaran slaughterhouse also claim not to have received their wages for more than 24 months.
"The problem has arisen since the firm was privatized, after which the owners backed out claiming that they have not received ample budget from the government to run the firm," a Ziaran worker who spoke on condition of anonymity told RFE/RL's Radio Farda today.
He said he has not been paid for the past 27 months, leaving him on the verge of destitution.
"I dare say that I and some of my fellows are on the verge of a divorce due to financial problems," he added.
