Russian Security Council Secretary Nicolai Patrushev is scheduled to pay a visit to Tehran on August 15, reportedly to discuss the "step-by-step" approach toward Iran's nuclear program.

On July 13, Russia made a proposal for a "step-by-step" approach, according to which Iran could address questions about its nuclear program and be rewarded with a gradual easing of sanctions.

While welcoming the proposal, Iran announced that it would regard the proposal as a goodwill gesture.

Patrushev will travel to Tehran at the invitation of the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili.

During his trip, he will meet with Jalili, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and other Iranian officials.

Other issues, such as Tehran-Moscow ties and regional developments, will also be discussed during his stay in Tehran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi also plans to visit Moscow on August 17 at the invitation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Salehi will meet with Lavrov and high-ranking Russian officials during the trip, which will be his first visit to Moscow since his appointment as foreign minister.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast had previously said that Lavrov's invitation was made in line with the consultations between Iran and Russia.

Commenting on the recent trip of Lavrov's special envoy to Tehran, Mehmanparast said that during the negotiations it was agreed that the consultations between the two countries would continue.

Salehi and Lavrov will discuss Russia's step-by-step approach as well as the latest regional and international developments, Mehmanparast added.

Mehmanparast also said Tehran welcomes the fact that Moscow, unlike the Westerners, has adopted a positive attitude and is making efforts to help resolve the dispute over the Islamic Republic's nuclear program through diplomatic channels.

"However, the point about our peaceful nuclear activities is that we have already taken great steps to build confidence and believe that confidence building is a two-way process," he added.
